This is the disturbing moment a ‘fountain’ of faeces – higher than an 18-storey apartment building – erupted in Moscow.
Footage circulating on Russian Telegram channels shows a geyser of sewage that reportedly shot up from an underground pipeline in the Novaya Moskva district in the capital.
A bang was heard before the stream gushed into the air, reaching up to 180 feet.
Contaminated water and debris are seen dousing nearby buildings and a car park for several minutes.
According to the Telegram channel Ostorozhno Moskva, the incident happened on Bachurinskaya Street, a few hundred metres from a high school and a medical centre.
A delivery driver is seen filming the fountain from far away, while others filmed the incident from their balconies.
According to Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned natural gas producer, a new section of the gas pipeline was being cleaned out this way.
Representatives of the conglomerate stressed that the situation is under control.
Local authorities are reportedly working to contain the damage and minimise the health risks to the area’s residents.
Former interior minister of Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, was among those who shared footage of the incident on social media.
He wrote: ‘Moscow Telegram channels report that the sewage system in Moscow broke down.
‘A “fountain” the height of a residential building is seen in one of Moscow’s districts.’
