Tennis courts at King’s Park in Stirling have been unveiled to the public after undergoing renovation works worth £153,000.
The revamp was carried out as a joint project between Stirling Council and the Lawn Tennis Association, the organisation in charge of the spread of the sport throughout the UK.
The resurfacing work was hailed by local tennis club members at an event alongside representatives from the LTA, council and Active Stirling.
It follows upgrades that were carried out at courts at Memorial Park in Bridge of Allan earlier this summer, with the joint investment falling into the Park Tennis Project, a £30million joint investment by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation to improve facilities across the UK.
In total, six city centre courts were given the refurb and they will now host a range of activities, including local tennis leagues offering the chances for residents to get involved with the game.
The courts will be able to be booked online via the LTA website, with sessions mainly costing £5 per hour per court or a £50 annual ‘family pass’, which has yet to be formally set up.
Cllr Jen Preston, environment, transport and Net Zero convener, said: “It’s been great to see the completed renovation works at the tennis courts at Kings Park and Memorial Park.
“The ongoing work between Stirling Council and the LTA is an excellent initiative to encourage communities to make use of these facilities and get involved in sport with all the benefits this brings.
“This project is a valuable investment in the health of communities that provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get active and I hope people will be encouraged to pick up a racket and join in.”
Scott Lloyd, LTA chief executive, added: “ We’re delighted to see park tennis courts across Stirling officially re-open to the public, and in better shape than ever.
“Park tennis courts are vital for providing people with opportunities to pick up a racket, and we want as many people as possible, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, to enjoy playing tennis and being active.
“Thanks to this investment the sport will be opened up to more players, for years to come.”
