A youngster fell overboard from a Scots ferry sparking a major emergency.
Blue light workers raced to the scene near Gourock, Inverclyde, at around 9.25am this morning after they received a report of a male youth falling overboard from a ferry.
HM Coastguard rescue crews and an RNLI lifeboat scrambled to the Firth of Clyde, where the boy had fallen into the waters below. He had fell from a Western Ferries sailing between Gourock and Dunoon.
Services were temporarily halted due to the incident near the ferry terminal at McInroy’s Point. Two CalMac boats were also dispatched to assist in rescue operations.
After being saved from the water, he was taken to the Inverclyde Royal Infirmary for treatment.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.25am on Tuesday, 29 October, 2024 we were called to a report of concern for a male youth who had gone overboard from a ferry near to Gourock.
“Emergency services attended and he was recovered from the water. He has been taken to Inverclyde Royal Infirmary for treatment.”
A HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “A person reported to be in the water by the ferry terminal at McInroy’s Point, Gourock, was rescued by a police RHIB. The alarm was raised at about 9.05am on 29 October.
“The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick was sent as well as Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team. The RNLI’s inshore lifeboat from Helensburgh also attended. The person was conveyed to hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
