Former First Lady Melania Trump has hit back at opponents labeling her husband, Donald Trump, ‘Hitler’ and said she is ‘not anxious’ about a possible return to the White House.

Melania detailed her optimism with a week until the US election in a sit-down interview with Fox & Friends on Tuesday morning.

She denounced claims that her husband was reenacting Nazi leader Adolf Hitler at a Madison Square Garden rally two days earlier, where she made her first appearance on the campaign trail.

‘It’s terrible. He’s not Hitler,’ said Melania.

‘And all of his supporters, they’re standing behind him because they want to see (the) country successful. And we see what kind of support he has.’

Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, last week claimed that he said he needed ‘the kind of generals that Adolf Hitler had’. Vice President Kamala Harris then said she believes Trump is a fascist and that ‘the people who know him best on this subject should be trusted’.

In response, Trump said at his Georgia rally on Monday that he is ‘the opposite of a Nazi’.

Asked why Trump, 78, is running for president a third time instead of retiring, Melania said it is because ‘he loves his country’.

‘And he wants to make it successful, and for all of the people… he loves people and he wants to make this country great again,’ she said.

After speaking in front of about 20,000 Trump fans who filled Madison Square Garden in Democratic stronghold New York City, Melania said of support for her husband: ‘I feel it’s kind of the same like 2016.’

‘It’s incredible and… people see what’s going on in the country and what kind of leadership they want,’ she said.

‘They want prosperity. They want American dream coming back, so that’s what we will decide on November 5th.’

Critics have pointed to Melania’s absence from the campaign trail and claimed that she dreaded her husband winning the election in 2016. She told the Fox News show that ‘I’m not anxious because this time is different’.

‘I have much more experience, much more knowledge. I was in the White House before. So when you go in, you know exactly what to expect,’ she said.

‘You know what kind of people you need to get. You need to have people that are on your team that they have the same vision as me and to serve me because they serve the country.’

Melania appears to have been unleashed as a weapon of sorts at the tail end of Trump’s campaign, as she his highly popular among his fans.

In an about-face to her typically low profile lifestyle, she has recently been vocal on social media and with the press around her newly released memoir, Melania. Her book was released in time to help make the final push for her husband.

A Fox & Friends host asked Melania about the ‘little pro-choice bombshell on the president in the middle of his fight for his career’, referring to her pro-abortion stance that differs from her husband’s.

‘My husband knew my position, my belief, since the day we met,’ she replied.

‘It was not a big surprise for him. I guess other people, the world, did not know where my stance are.’
