It’s a MASSIVE occasion under the lights at Pittodrie this midweek as Aberdeen play host to Rangers.

Philippe Clement and his troops head for the Granite City trailing the Dons by six points and Jimmy Thelin can really fire out a statement of intent by inflicting more pain on the visitors and increasing that gap to NINE. The Swede has made a storming start to life in Scotland with eight league wins and one draw from his nine games so far and an unbeaten CV overall after going perfect to date in the Premier Sports Cup with the semi-finals next up against Celtic this weekend. Rangers themselves are heading to Hampden but those thoughts will be put to one side ahead of what should be a blockbuster occasion in the Premiership.

Not often would you say a match is must-win after 10 games but it will feel that way for the Light Blues faithful making the trip to Pittodrie and those watching from home. The Dons are level at the summit with champions Celtic and go into this one flying. Record Sport’s top team have delivered their predictions on the outcome of the huge showdown.

I can’t see anything other than a home win, looking at the current form. Philippe Clement’s side would need to go to Pittodrie and really grind something out. It is not out with the realms of possibility but you would have to strongly fancy Aberdeen. The Dons are a team full of confidence and Jimmy Thelin has shown he is a man who can make changes that not only impact games but also wins them.

Aberdeen proved their credentials against Celtic and can do it again with Rangers. However, Philippe Clement’s side will be fighting hard for a big result and it may well end up with honours even.

The visitors have only scored one goal away from home in the league and the Dons edged Dundee United by a single goal at the weekend. It’s unlikely to be a high scoring game but Jimmy Thelin’s men will likely go for the throat against a vulnerable Gers – and that could suit the visitors who can edge this pressure match.

Momentum is with the Dons while Rangers seem to be stumbling along at best. Matches between these two are always fiery no matter the context so expect this one to be explosive. Aberdeen have left their best to the second half in recent games and there could be another late twist here to pile the pressure on Philippe Clement.

The Dons are flying and are going to give Rangers a heck of a test. Philippe Clement’s side have struggled away from home but they can still secure a point. That might not be a bad result in the circumstances.

Aberdeen 1 Rangers 1

Some of the odds on offer on Aberdeen to win are nigh-on unbelievable given the form they are in. They’re flying and Rangers are, to put it gently, not very good away from home. Having said all that, I’m going to contradict myself, sit on the fence, and predict another thrilling draw that won’t do the Dons’ credentials as serious contenders much harm.
