SWEDEBORG, Mo. (Gray News) – A school district in central Missouri has renamed its elementary school building after a beloved longtime custodian.
The Swedeborg R-III School District made the announcement back in August, saying that the building would now be known as the Claudene Wilson Learning Center.
The district shared photos of the building being renamed, with crews placing new nameplates along the outside of the building.
The district also shared photos of Wilson standing in front of the building along with students and staff.
“Ms. Claudene has been a vital part of Swedeborg School for the past 30 years. She is highly thought of and most loved by all,” the district wrote in the announcement.
According to CNN, the renaming of the school building was in celebration of Wilson’s retirement. She worked at the small school of just 40 students for more than 32 years.
In addition to being a custodian, Wilson has also served as a handywoman, plumber and bus driver.
“I’m not here to say I’m a hero. I’m not. It’s an honor to work here. I just do it for the kids,” Wilson told CNN.
Swedeborg is about 150 miles southwest of St. Louis.
