(CNN) – One of the country’s biggest supermarket chains is reversing course.

Hy-Vee confirmed it is getting rid of, or changing, its self-checkout lines.

Hy-Vee is popular in the Midwest and in the South.

The company says some of its stores have eliminated self-checkout lines, while others have converted self-checkout to express lanes for 12 items or less.

A company spokesperson said Hy-Vee is trying to provide a better customer experience, so it is bringing back traditional checkout lines that the supermarket offered before the pandemic.

Hy-Vee is not alone.

Target also plans to limit self-checkout lines starting in March, and Walmart has removed self-checkout at some of its stores already.
