Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe insists his side should have had a penalty after their dismal run continued with a defeat at Raith Rovers last night.
It is now one win in 12 games in all competitions for rock-bottom Diamonds after Rovers bagged a 1-0 win at Stark’s Park, courtesy of Scott Brown’s fine finish in the 20th minute.
Airdrie saw a penalty claim waved away after Terrell Agyemang’s header appeared to hit Dapo Mebude’s arm before Ben Wilson was denied late on by a superb Kevin Dabrowski stop.
But Airdrie couldn’t find a leveller as they slipped to third straight defeat in the league, leaving them four points adrift of Dunfermline at the foot of the Championship table.
McCabe said: “I thought first half we never affected the game in the way we’d have liked. Coming in at half-time we had a chance to reset and we put in a much better performance, controlled a lot of the ball and areas of the pitch.
“One criticism is we’d like to test the goalkeeper a bit more. In saying that, he has a great save there at the end to keep Raith in it.
“There’s also a definitely penalty shout – it’s a handball – and a chance for us to come away with a good point.
“I don’t think Raith Rovers really created anything. I can’t remember Murray Johnson having a save to make or certainly one that was eye-catching. He was very quiet.
“In the second half we started to grow and started playing more like us. The first 45 was really passive and we were feeling sorry for ourselves. That mentality is not our team.
“So there was a quick reminder to the boys at half-time that we’ve come here in the past and put in good performances, but it wasn’t to be.”
Airdrie now host Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Accies on Saturday desperate for a win.
McCabe added: “I’m under no illusions that it is a bit of a slump and stuff right now, but I think with the performance and the way we controlled the game, on another day we come away with a point or maybe three.”
