Cops have launched a murder probe and named a woman killed in Glasgow.
A huge police presence has been in the area of St Mungo Avenue in the city’s Townhead after officers received reports of a disturbance at 1.55pm on Tuesday.
The woman who died has now been named as 40-year-old Sandie Butler from Glasgow, and her family has released an image of her.
In a statement released tonight by Police Scotland, the force has confirmed they are treating the death as murder following a post-mortem examination today.
Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and an extensive investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death.
“There remains an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around the time of this incident to please contact police.
“In addition, members of the public are asked to check their private CCTV or dash-cam footage as this may be significant in assisting us with our enquiries.”
Local residents have expressed fears since the incident with a huge number of police and forensics officers seen in the area.
One resident, who lives in Townhead, told the Record: “It’s a terrible shock. My friend lives in one of the flats within the cordon and she was told she wasn’t allowed to leave her home.
“I have a friend who parked in the area within the cordon too and she’s still not been able to get into her car. I’ve never seen so many police in all my life. Straight away we knew something very serious had happened.”
Another local said: “Police have been here all night and they were asking residents if they saw what happened. It’s really scary this happening right on your doorstep.”

Detectives have also set up a website that gives members of the public access to a form to send information anonymously directly to the Major Investigation Team.
