A teenager has died two weeks after being shot on a Brooklyn basketball court — and a 15-year-old boy has been charged in the case, cops said Wednesday.
McNally Zamor, 18, was shot in the head on the court at E. 81st St. and Flatlands Ave. near Intermediate School 68 Isaac Bildersee in Canarsie about 5:40 p.m. Oct. 16, police said.
The victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital where he died Friday.
A day after the shooting, a 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Charges are likely to be upgraded now that the victim has died.
No clear motive has been established for the shooting. But cops said they were investigating to see if there was a connection to an earlier shooting, which might be evidence of a larger gang war in the area.
The shooting was followed by a spate of shootings involving five teens who were shot and killed on five consecutive days.
Clarence Jones, 16, Malachi Deberry, 15, Tae’Arion Mungo 16, Tristan Sanders, 15, and Joshua Sparrow, 18, were all killed between Thursday and Monday in separate shootings on consecutive days in Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
The shootings added a new level of angst and outrage in communities already gripped by frustration and fear over out-of-control gun violence. There have been no arrests in those five slays.
