A schoolboy has executed a Halloween costume trick so impressive that it has left numerous adults scratching their heads, unable to work out how he pulled it off.
A photo of the boy’s effort has been circulating on social media as users confess they can’t comprehend the physics behind the optical illusion. Despite his mind-boggling trickery, the boy appeared to only manage to secure third place in his school’s best-dressed competition.
Pictured next to the duo who placed first and second, he is seen posing as if his body has been sliced in half – with the lower half of his body inexplicably standing firmly to the left of his upper half. After spotting the costume on X, one individual shared it on Reddit, where they confessed: “Been trying to figure out the past 15 mins! How is his body contorted? I need someone to draw this out for me!”
Another person concurred, appearing equally perplexed. “I don’t understand it at all,” they admitted. “I would need a visual representation to truly get it. No amount of ‘he’s doing xyz’ could make it make sense to me right now, it’s that good.” Whilst a third proclaimed: “That’s truly an amazing costume for a little kid!”
Others criticised the decision that saw the boy win only third prize in a contest, meanwhile, alleging it may have been swayed by a vote based on popularity. Yet, there was an alternative viewpoint too. Someone questioned: “Maybe because it’s obvious an adult fully made that with no real input from the child?
“It looks like a school competition. The other two were probably not put together by the kid either, but the idea at least was almost certainly theirs.”
One Redditor provided an explanation along with a guide on how to recreate the illusion: “Basically you wear a regular shirt and pants, and over those, a larger shirt with the back cut out and a fishing weight (so it hangs properly) plus a larger pair of pants with holes behind the knees (your legs go in those holes, the top part of the pants are what you hold), and some sort of stuffing to make the waist appear.”
Another person detailed the trick more specifically, saying: “The kid cut the back of the pants and his legs are in the back where the back of your knees would go. The rest of the pants are stuffed. The shirt is two sizes too big to give the illusion of the boy standing up straight. He’s slightly leaning to the side and holding the pants up straight.”
Meanwhile, a third simply pointed out: “Look at the feet. Imagine doing a wall sit and turning torso 90 degrees. Using the waist stump to balance himself.”
