The work of a Perth amateur photographer has raised more than £12,000 for a cause close to her heart.

June Nicol started volunteering with the MS Society about 15 years ago after a relative was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

When an injury temporarily stopped her playing sport she turned to photography to keep herself busy, and decided to turn her new hobby into a fundraising activity for the charity.

A decade on June, of Craigie, has now sold more than 3,300 calendars, raising over £12,000 for the charity’s Stop MS Appeal.

She celebrated the 10th calendar anniversary by inviting supporters to vote for their favourite images from previous years’ calendars to feature in the 2024 edition.

She said: “To all the people who’ve bought calendars over the years: thank you. I couldn’t do it without you.

“I say this every year to them.

“This is not a one man band, we’re all a team. I’ve had great support from family and friends in choosing my pictures and supporting and promoting the actual calendar once it’s ready.

“There are loads of folk that have helped me and I can’t ever repay it; all I can do is say thank you. I’m really, really lucky to have so many nice people who will help and support me.”

June, who is originally from Greenock, moved to Perth in 1994.

In addition to making and selling the calendars, she often volunteers as a photographer at MS Society Scotland community events and MS Society fundraising events in Scotland.

She said of the Fair City: “It’s a really great base to get about from and also a nice place to live.

“I’m still in the same house I moved into 30 years ago and some of my neighbours have been the same for upwards of 25 years. I’m very settled.

“I wouldn’t like to put a number on it but I’d say almost every calendar I’ve produced for the MS Society over the last 10 years has had at least one picture from Perth or Perthshire in it. It’s a very photogenic place to live.

“January’s image in the 2025 calendar is South Inch in the snow.

“My second calendar, in 2016, featured one of my favourite pictures of Perth, because I’ve never seen anything quite like it before or since. It’s an image of the River Tay frozen over and I believe I took it on Sunday 10 January 2010. I think there’s a bit of a snow theme going on here.

“For the 2024 calendar, which was the special edition, I chose the front cover and it was another picture of the Tay in Perth but this time in sunshine. I felt it was such a nice picture which captured the beauty of Perth and my adopted home.”
