A cracking clean-up crew transformed a Lanarkshire village with a successful spick-and-span sojourn.
Pupils and staff from Plains Primary organised a whole school litter pick in their community.
The generous group were very lucky that the weather stayed dry and they were able to litter pick in five different areas of the village.
Pupils cleared their playground, the two local parks, the streets surrounding the school and down towards Plains Main Street.
A Plains Primary spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live: “Each class from the school was responsible for each of the identified areas of the village to clear litter from, and pupils worked in pairs.
“At the end of the afternoon all the classes returned to the playground, where an amazing 37 bags of litter were counted as the total number collected.
“Seeing the large number of bags of litter reinforced for pupils the importance of using litter bins and not throwing litter on the ground.
“This message is being taught regularly through the school’s ongoing eco work towards reaccreditation of our green flag award.
“At the end of the afternoon pupils were congratulated for being responsible citizens and making Plains a tidier place to live.
“The litter pick was organised by the school’s eco lead, Mrs Munro, and was a very successful event.
“The school appreciates the time given from parent helpers and volunteers who assisted to ensure pupil safety whilst out in the village.
“Thanks is also due to North Lanarkshire Council who supported the event by providing litter picking equipment and collecting all the bin bags.”
