A driver caught with heroin worth £11,000 has been ordered to do 225 hours of unpaid work as an alternative to jail.
William Collins was placed under social work supervision for 18 months when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He will be confined to his home each night for 12 weeks under an electronic tagging order.
Collins, 29, of Stewart Avenue, Blantyre, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin at junction 4 of the M74 on May 4 last year.
Police found the drugs when they stopped him for a routine check on the motorway.
Collins was on bail for another matter at the time.
Scott O’Connor, prosecuting, said police officers stopped the Volkswagen Golf at the Maryville junction around 11.30pm.
He stated: “The accused appeared nervous and was detained under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
“He said there was something under the seat but he didn’t know what it was.
“A block of brown powder was found. It weighed approximately 450 grammes, tested positive for diamorphine and was valued at around £11,000.”
