A man has been charged after an elderly man and his dog were killed in a fatal collision near Edinburgh days before Christmas.

The crash took place on the A768 Loanhead at Nivensknowe Road where an 88-year-old man was struck by a Honda Civic car while he was walking his pup on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

He was rushed to he Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died as a result of his injuries four days on from the incident on Saturday, December 23, 2023.

Officers at the time also confirmed that the dog that the man was walking also passed away.

The 51-year-old male driver of the car did not require medical treatment but has now been charged in connection with a road traffic offence.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
