A woman died after a horror road crash today which saw four others rushed to hospital for treatment. The incident took place in Galashiels, in the Borders.
Police Scotland officers are now appealing to the public for information on the crash, which took place on the A7, in the town’s Abbotsford Road.
The woman, an 83-year-old, was driving a black Seat Altea, which was involved in a crash with a grey Honda CRV at around 10.55am this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was rushed to Borders General Hospital. But she was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 78-year-old man, who had been driving the Honda, was also taken to Borders General Hospital, along with his three passengers for treatment.
The 75-year-old woman, 46-year-old woman and 15-year-old boy in question are not believed to have life-threatening. The road was closed while officers investigated and re-opened around 3pm.
Sergeant Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. In addition if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact us.”
