This year, Sainsbury’s tugs at heartstrings with their festive advert for 2024.

It introduces a charming narrative featuring two beloved characters joining forces in a seasonal adventure that showcases the retailer’s array of delightful Christmas offerings.

Stephen Fry narrates the touching story at the end, lending an air of warmth to the already cozy advert.

Moreover, viewers are in for a special treat seeing ‘Sophie,’ an actual Sainsbury’s staff member, share her screen time with the Big Friendly Giant, also known as the BFG.

Drawing inspiration from the classic Roald Dahl story, Sophie and the BFG embark on a fantastic culinary quest, giving a whimsical touch to the holiday spirit.

The adventure begins with a nod to Dahls’ imaginative world as the giant is seen preparing an unusual feast. It then twists, with the giant enlisting the expertise of Sainsbury’s to add some extra “Phizz-whizzing” magic to the festive season.

In a magical blending of fantasy and reality, the ad shows the BFG arriving in a Sainsbury’s car park with a sneeze so powerful it triggers a commotion, marking the start of his journey with Sophie through the UK, tucked safely inside his bag.

They begin their mission with a focus on flavour, selecting only the freshest goods supplied by Sainsbury’s trusted partners, their shopping list boasting items like succulent salmon, crisp Brussels sprouts and rich Stilton cheese.

After their adventure concludes, the pair return to the BFG’s dream cave, where he meticulously arranges the bounty of food gathered from their journey.

He deftly turns these ingredients into mouthwatering dishes before setting out to present one fortunate family with a festive feast.

The narrative rounds off with Sophie and the BFG exchanging Christmas greetings, while a voice-over can be heard saying: “Want to go big this Christmas? Ask Sainsbury’s. Good Food for all of us.”

Devotees of Coronation Street are in for an exclusive treat, as they will first catch sight of the 60-second promo during Friday evening’s commercial break.
