Mould growth in bathrooms and showers is a common issue faced by people in the UK, particularly when it spreads to silicone sealants.

If your silicone sealant has begun to show black, brown, or orange stains, it is likely a result of mould growth.

The damp and humid environments of bathrooms and kitchens create the perfect breeding ground for mould, which thrives on moisture. It often develops in tile grout and silicone sealant around windows and walls.

Condensation, water leaks, splashes and a lack of ventilation are some of the main causes of mould growth, reports the Express

One individual dealing with mould growth on her silicone sealant was Stephanie Richards.

Stephanie asked the Facebook group, ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips‘: “Any tips on dealing with black mould on shower sealant? I’ve tried the usual Cillit bang, bleach, and mould remover sprays. Nothing works, it’s a walk-in shower too.”

Stephanie’s post received numerous responses, with the most commonly recommended solution being HG Mould Remover.

Tina Harris commented: “I highly recommend HG Mould Remover , excellent stuff, spray and leave for 10 minutes and the mould has gone. Can’t beat it.”

Maxine Collins replied: “HG Mould Remover spray. Once you have tried that, you’ll be recommending it to everyone else who asks the same question. Trust me, you won’t regret it!”

HG Mould Remover remover can be bought from Tesco for £5.25.

On the Tesco website, the product has received a rating of 4.8 out of five with 42 reviews.

One review wrote: “Amazing. It’s so good, I’m going to have to paint, because the other parts of the wall look grubby now! Mould disappears in seconds, you can watch it! Won’t be without it again.”

Another agreed writing: “You don’t even have to wait 30 minutes for it to work. It does the job in seconds. It’s worth every penny spent.”

However, another customer claimed the product made “no difference at all”. They wrote: “I have used it to clean grouting and silicon seal in the bathroom and it has made no difference at all.

“Maybe the foam would be better as it would stay on the grouting itself rather than dripping down all over tiles but total waste of money.”

Alternatively, fans of Mrs. Hinch also suggested using Dettol Mould and Mildew spray and Mould Magic to eliminate the unsightly stains.

Dettol Mould and Mildew spray costs £3.50 from Tesco and £3.75 from Sainsbury’s.
