A thug is back behind bars for attacking a woman at his Motherwell home.
Ryan Shields, 29, kicked his partner on the face as she lay on the floor and also bit her on the face.
Fortunately, her injuries were not serious, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard.
Shields admitted assaulting the woman and acting in a threatening or abusive manner towards her at his home in Watson Street, Motherwell, on February 4.
At the time they had been in a relationship for only a few months.
Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, said: “The accused was heavily under the influence and became angry, shouting and swearing at the woman.
“She went to leave his flat and there was a struggle that resulted in her falling.
“Shields kicked and bit her on the face. She dialled 999 and could be heard screaming for help.
“She ran from the flat, locking the door and effectively locking Shields inside.”
Defence lawyer Rowan Myles said his client has mental health issues and a report from a psychiatrist is awaited.
The solicitor admitted: “His record is unenviable. There is considerable violence attached to it.”
Sentence was deferred until later this month for reports and Shields was remanded in custody.
A non-harassment order means he must stay away from his latest victim for two years.
Sheriff Michael Higgins told Shields: “Your record is considerable and a prison sentence is very much at the forefront of my mind.”
