BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX/Gray News) – A Mississippi mom and her 10-year-old daughter allegedly formed a “suicide pact” and decided to take pills, but only the child followed through, according to authorities.
On July 6, 2024, Ocean Springs officers responded to the Studio 6 Motel on Bienville Boulevard for a report of a child overdosing.
When first responders arrived, they found a young female unresponsive.
Officers located several unknown capsules and empty prescription medication bottles in a green backpack near the unresponsive girl, WLOX reported.
Police said the medication bottles were prescribed to Brittney Hensley, the child’s mother.
Hensley and her 10-year-old daughter were transported separately to a hospital, where emergency doctors intubated them.
The daughter was airlifted to a hospital shortly after.
Further investigation revealed that Hensley and her daughter had agreed to take the medication as part of a “suicide pact.”
Police said Hensley left the area and went to Alabama during the investigation.
She was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and given a $500,000 bond.
The daughter was taken into Mississippi CPS custody, where she remains.
