Philippe Clement has taken Rangers into a Premier Sports Cup Final meeting with Celtic.
But there is still not much respite for the beleaguered Belgian on the Hotline. Many punters remain unimpressed with the team’s performances, including the semi-final win over Motherwell.
Alan Lyon said: “Why has no one pointed out why Rangers have a left-footed player playing on the right wing and a right footed player playing on the left? They very seldom hit the byline preferring to come inside most of the time. Easy for opponents to read and managers to set up defences.”
Tommy Sives said: “I keep hearing suggestions about getting rid of Clement and that it may be difficult to do that due to financial constraints, but the same could be said for getting someone in. What’s the selling point for a new manager? There’s no money available, or a board for that matter.”
Clement’s signing Robin Propper didn’t get off the Hampden bench against the Steelmen. That prompted Robert S Pender to say: “Watching Robin the Rangers central defender in the dug out, I could see a bad apple causing unrest against the manager. It only takes one to spread the rot.”
Steve McSherry’s suggestion that Motherwell would have been tougher Final opponents for Celtic than Rangers raised some hackles. George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “What garbage. Only the woodwork and the Motherwell keeper prevented a cricket score. It’s funny how the likes of Mr McSherry and one or two other regulars keep telling us Rangers are no longer a threat to Celtic, yet all they talk about is Rangers. Celtic’s supposed main challengers Aberdeen did their usual of playing out of their skins against Rangers but rolling over against Celtic.”
Donald Dundas, Uddingston, added: “I see Steve McSherry has been allowed to play with his parent’s laptop again. To suggest Motherwell will be a harder final just stinks of bitterness. However, as a Gers fan, it pains me to say that I don’t look forward to the final as Rangers in this current form won’t be much of an obstacle. If Cyriel Dessers is a striker, I’m Santa Claus.”
Celtic fans savoured their hammering of Aberdeen ahead of the Champions League tie with RB Leipzig.
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “I expected Celtic to win, but not by such a margin. Every player was on top form with Daizen Maeda being the obvious standout. He is unplayable in that form.
“Also we are such a better team with Callum McGregor in there. No-one in Scottish football can get near us in that form and the only way we will lose games this season is with poor performances and a very poor one if it was Rangers that beat us.”
Scott McAdam, Glasgow, added: “If we play half the way we played on Saturday in the Final, Phil the magician will be packing up his top hats and bunny rabbits and heading back to Belgium.”
John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Are Celtic edging near the exit door from the SPFL? With the growing bank balance not being used to acquire quality Champions League players. As each season passes, it looks more like a fund to enable them to join a higher profile league. With now no team in Scotland to challenge them, a move seems logical, especially with the finances to do so.”
James Young had a message on pyro and said: “One way to stop the nonsense would be to deduct points to the teams whose fans use them. The real fans would soon point out the offenders. Losing the league on flare deductions would be a bitter pill to swallow.”
Neil Renton, Leith, said: “I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve being a Hibs fan but they’re trying my patience. If those at the club ever consider a new career, I’d like them to forget about being dog walkers. They’re always losing their leads.”
