A “charming” and “special” bothy in the Scottish Highlands is now available to book for an autumn or winter getaway.

Tor Bothy is a cosy bothy nestled amidst peaceful woodland near the village of Letters in Wester Ross. With sweeping views out over Loch Broom and the mountains beyond, it looks like the perfect staycation spot for those keen to get away from the noise of modern life.

The bothy sleeps up to two people in two single beds. A two-night stay at Tor Bothy is currently available to book for £90 per night on Airbnb.

Stepping inside, the bothy features an “easy-to-light” wood-burning stove, a kitchen area with hot and cold water and a gas burner for cooking, and traditional Highland box beds. It also includes a long window seat from which you can sit and take in the spectacular views.

Elsewhere, Tor Bothy’s shower is housed in a separate structure. The compost toilet is also found in a separate shed a “very short” walk from the main building.

Outside, the bothy is set amidst sizeable private gardens that you can wander around and take in the atmosphere. There is also more than seven acres of surrounding re-wilded woodland for tranquil autumn or winter walks.

Tor Bothy has earned rave reviews from previous visitors on Airbnb, with an average rating of 4.91 based on 193 reviews. It has even been classed as a “guest favourite”, which means it is among the top-rated listings on the website.

One visitor wrote: “Special place that encourages you to unplug. Beautiful surroundings and surrounded by nature.”

A second agreed: “A beautiful bothy with amazing views of the landscape. Very friendly hosts with a lovely art studio nearby!

“Peaceful and wholesome place to spend the past few days, loved every minute of it.”

However, some Airbnb users had issues with the steep gravel track up to the bothy, with one sharing: “Peaceful, rustic and tastefully decorated accommodation with lovely views across to Loch Broom. However, as mentioned in other reviews, our car couldn’t cope with the very steep and winding gravel road up to the bothy, which meant parking at the bottom and walking up.”

If you are looking to spend a night or two in the area but are after something a bit more conventional than Tor Bothy, there are plenty of options. Some of the standouts include the Clachan Farmhouse bed and breakfast and the 18th-century Ferry Boat Inn.
