A doctor has shared four dietary culprits that could make you age faster – and suggests cutting them from your eating habits for a youthful appearance.

New York City acupuncturist Dr Lott, who boasts over 300,000 TikTok followers for his nutrition tips, highlighted in a video titled “Foods That Make You Old Faster” items to reduce intake of.

Topping the doctor’s list was the morning staple coffee, which though kick-starting many people’s day, may have unwelcome effects, reports Surrey Live.

Excessive coffee consumption can reportedly cause skin dehydration and wrinkles, as well as dampen collagen production which is vital for firm, healthy skin.

Following with a warning against artificial sweeteners, these widely-used sugar substitutes are not without their perils. Despite being favoured in diet foods and products like toothpaste, they’ve been associated with higher cardiovascular disease risk.

Dietician Raelene Brooks, of the College of Nursing at the University of Phoenix, enlightened Fortune magazine by condemning such sweeteners, stating, “Artificial sweeteners are man-made chemicals designed to trick the brain into thinking it’s eating sugar but without the calories. Anytime you’ve got that type of compound that’s triggering the brain [and causing] inflammation it’s a negative thing.”

Dr Lott emphasised the detrimental effects of salt on his list, flagging how excessive intake can snatch away moisture from your complexion, resulting in dehydration and consequently increasing the likelihood of wrinkles appearing.

Additionally, he turned his attention to dairy products. Although some research indicates dairy may reduce the risk of heart-related illnesses, other studies suggest a connection between dairy intake and an accelerated rate of cognitive decline and biological ageing.

He noted: “Whole milk has a higher fat content, and there has been research linked to higher fat diets and inflammation. When inflammation gets triggered, the cells are not able to regenerate efficiently [and] start to degrade.”
