BATH, NY. (WBNG/Gray News) – A man in New York was arrested after allegedly attacking a stranger who was wearing a “Trump 2024″ hat at a supermarket, according to authorities.
Bath Police said officers were dispatched to Tops Friendly Markets on West Morris Street around 10 a.m. for a report of a fight.
Through the investigation, it was determined that 60-year-old Robert Yott confronted a stranger inside the store after becoming aggressive over a “Trump 2024″ hat.
Police said Yott punched the stranger in the mouth and head several times, causing their teeth to be broken and mouth bloody.
Yott did not know the victim and the attack appears to be random, police said.
He was arrested and charged with felony assault and a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge.
Political tensions are high ahead of Election Day on Tuesday as Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris battle to be named the next president.
