St Mirren have moved to terminate Kevin van Veen’s loan.

The Buddies have decided to cut short his temporary deal and let him return to Dutch side Groningen. The Paisley club has made the move after van Veen appeared in court last week over domestic abuse allegations.

Van Veen, 33, has so far made no plea or declaration and his case has been adjourned until the end of this month. St Mirren, however, have decided to move on and have indicated to van Veen’s camp that he is free to return to the Netherlands. Stephen Robinson’s side had signed the ex-Kilmarnock and Motherwell player on loan for the season, although there was a break clause in January.

St Mirren recently agreed to mutually terminate the contract of defender Shaun Rooney last month after he was charged with allegedly assaulting a female. Saints defender Jaden Brown is also the subject of internal disciplinary proceedings, relating to alleged driving offences.
