MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. – Leaders with the Mercer County Salvation Army say they are in desperate need of donations and people to help in the effort to help those who are less fortunate during the holidays.
Sgt. Melissa White says the non-profit was short $25,000 of their goal last year and she expects to be short this year as well. On top of donations being needed, White says there’s a big need to get people to volunteer or work in ringing the bell and collecting money for their kettle bell collection efforts.
“When I say desperate, we are desperate for help with our kettles. Whether you want to be a paid ringer for $12 an hour or whether you would like to be a volunteer to give back to your community. There’s wonderful opportunities to register to ring,” said White.
White says the organization is hoping the citizens of Mercer County can step up and provide help to their neighbors. The Salvation Army is also hoping for food donations to be given away during their food basket giveaway.
White says the organization has more children signed up this year to receive gifts as part of their Angel Tree giveaway than ever before.
You can register to ring online by going here. White says if you’re interested in making a food, monetary or volunteering your time you can contact the Mercer County Salvation Army at 304-425-2971.
