Former Celtic stopper Joe Hart struggled to hide his disappointment live on air after watching the Hoops fall behind to RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
The Hoops started the game on the front foot and almost went in front through Arne Engels but a mix-up at a set piece on 23 minutes saw the visitors strike the first blow. Kevin Kampl’s inswinging corner was inadvertently flicked on at the near post by Cameron-Carter Vickers to a grateful Christoph Baumgartner to nod home from inside the six-yard box.
Since hanging up the gloves at the end of last season, Hart has moved into punditry and was on co-commentary duty for a second time with his old club, having worked on their gutsy goalless draw with Atalanta on matchday three. The ex keeper voiced his happiness at Celtic‘s start in the opening 20 mins against Bundesliga side Leipzig, but was struck with a classic case of the commentator’s curse when Leipzig opened the scoring.
Reacting to the goal, he said: “I’m new to the (commentary game) game but that really felt like a commentator’s curse. Cameron Carter-Vickers will be very disappointed, he has to head that away from goal but has headed it into a dangerous area. Baumgartner can’t believe his luck there. It’s a big goal. Leipzig didn’t panic when they were on the back-foot for the early part of the game. They built in slowly and got some corners that could easily have been prevented and Celtic found themselves 1-0 down.”
Fortunately for Hart, his blushes were spared when Nicolas Kuhn got the hosts back on level terms with a superb effort 10 minutes before the interval and then completed the turnaround to make it 2-1 in first half injury time.
