Yobs have reportedly been firing fireworks at vehicles and moving traffic in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow this evening.
Police and fire crews are attending an incident on Harriet Street, where locals say the area is being terrorised with fireworks being set off by the dozen, including near windows and cars.
It’s understood thugs were seen recklessly shooting fireworks at vehicles in the area. Youths were spotted placing lit rockets on the road and firing them into moving traffic.
More than a dozen police officers shut off Harriet Street as firefighters extinguished a blaze that engulfed a grey Volkswagen Golf.
Locals watched as crews used a hose on the vehicle, which had its bonnet lifted, while yobs continued to set off rockets just yards away.
This comes after plans for a control zone fell through. Pollokshields was set to be the first neighborhood in Glasgow to implement a ban after previous years saw the area terrorized by youths firing pyrotechnics at people, police, and houses.
However, the City Council had to apologise to residents last month after failing to submit the paperwork in time for the Guy Fawkes celebrations.
Drew Somerville posted on X: “Just another November 5th in Pollokshields, a fire, display-strength fireworks being let off in the street by the dozen. Police Scotland helplessly outnumbered. When will we have these unnecessary, unwanted idiot ‘toys’ banned?”
Another local posted: “The bangs from fireworks have been constant for three hours now in Pollokshields. Some sound more like bombs going off.”
Police are also currently mobilised in the Niddrie area of Edinburgh, where yobs are also firing rockets at vehicles.
