The old adage about a leopard never changing its spots doesn’t appear to apply to Alyssa Farah Griffin.
“The View” co-host and one-time Trump supporter revealed that she voted for Kamala Harris ahead of Tuesday’s presidential election.
Griffin, 35, became one of the ABC talk show’s resident Republican voices in 2022 after previously serving as an aide in Donald Trump’s administration.
On Tuesday’s episode, she confessed to voting for Harris, marking the first time in her life that she’s backed a Democratic nominee for POTUS.
“Four years ago today, I was in the White House with Donald Trump on election night,” Griffin shared. “I believed he deserved to lose that night, at that point. I thought he hadn’t fought to win the election, but I thought the next four years would be the Republican Party rebuilding and becoming something I could believe in and turning the page on Donald Trump, and it didn’t do that. So, this weekend, on Saturday, for the first time in my life, I voted for a Democrat.”
Griffin’s brave admission was met with roaring applause from the audience as the four Democratic-leaning co-hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines — cheered on.
Griffin then clarified that she’s still a Republican at heart and more so considered her vote “a loan to [Kamala].” She added that she voted for Republican candidates down the rest of her ballot.
“I worry the direction that Donald Trump will take this country, and I take my own warning seriously,” she furthered. “I don’t agree with a lot of [Harris’] policies and we can criticize that down the road, but today is about the best thing for the future and the future of the country is that Donald Trump will lose and Kamala Harris is elected.”
The former White House director of strategic communications has been openly critical of the former reality TV star-turned-politician since resigning on Dec. 3, 2020. She said she “wasn’t comfortable” with how the administration was handling losing the election weeks prior.
On Monday’s episode of “The View,” Griffin called Trump “the most dangerous man to have ever sat in the American presidency.”
