With 2025 now just weeks away, the most popular baby names have been predicted, giving parents-to-be some much-needed naming inspiration. A new study from JoJo Maman Bébé indicates that more than a quarter (26%) of UK parents worry about future regret over their child’s name, and nearly a quarter (24%) find it difficult to settle on one.
Another finding reveals that nearly two in five (37%) opt for names that are easily pronounced and spelt by others, while a noteworthy 36% ended up changing their child’s name after their birth. Collaborating with baby name consultant Colleen Slagen, JoJo Maman Bébé has delved into the trending names of 2024, those at risk of fading away, and Colleen’s predictions for the hits of 2025.

Coming off the heels of this year’s popular picks, it’s predicted that shorter names will dominate the trends in 2025 due to their simple elegance. “Look out for Margot in 2025 as people are looking for feminine, classic-sounding alternatives to the top 10 girls’ names, and names like Margot, Eloise, and Vivian fit the bill. A few of the trends I’m seeing right now that I expect to see more of in 2025 are short and effortless names for both boys and girls. For example, 1-2 syllables and 3-4 letter names like Cal, Mack, Vann and Case for boys and Navy, Indy, Drew, and Reya for girls.
“Names ending in ‘o’ are big for boys and names ending in ‘a’ are big for girls. Short names can feel brisk, but an ending vowel softens them which appeals to many people. Milo and Hugo sound like sweet, gentle kids as opposed to Banks or Knox which have a cool-guy feel.”
Discussing the “biggest trend” the expert says next year, what she calls “My Best Friend’s Dad” names will be popular such as Scottie, Tommie, Markie, Mickey, and Billie. People are also leaning more toward gender-neutral names for boys like Darcy and Kit, she adds.
“Vintage names are also on the rise. For girls, Louise, Dorothy, Mabel and Maisie are on the rise and for boys it’s Arthur, Archie, and Howard. Judith and Reggie have also recently been used. Talking about celebs naming their kids, the expert says they find it interesting that ” Regarding celebrities naming their children, the expert found it intriguing that “Hailey and Justin chose Jack as it’s a very popular name.”
