Donald Trump has claimed victory in the US presidential election after America moved to the Right in a bitter contest. Votes are still being counted, but The New York Times estimates the Republican has more than a 95% chance of taking back a job he lost in 2020.

In a victory address, Trump said would make the US “the best” it has ever been. The newspaper is also projecting he will win all seven battleground states key to winning the electoral college.

Trump is also in line to win the popular vote while the Republicans will retake the Senate. Trump, who first became President in 2016, went head-to-head against Vice President Kamala Harris.

He hit her on the rising inflation of the Biden/Harris administration and illegal immigration. Trump performed poorly in his debate against Harris, but he enjoyed momentum in the polls in the last stretch of the race.
