A man was left utterly gobsmacked after making an “ultra-rare discovery” in Scotland.
It’s one thing finding something unusual, but for James Cook, he managed to spot a sight that shouldn’t even be in the UK. He shared the results with his TikTok following of 205,500 – and even they can’t believe it.
His exciting encounters with the UK’s rarest animals usually amaze his audience, but nothing prepared him for what he found on Inchconnachan island, located in Loch Lamond.
In a video, he exclaimed: “That’s a wallaby, how good is that?” He continued: “And here it is coming into focus, this is a red necked wallaby on the island of Inchconnachan in Loch Lamond, Scotland.
“It’s absolutely beautiful, it’s a bit dark so you can’t see it very well, but obviously it’s clear enough.”
Adding to the rarity, he noted: “But it’s a beautiful thing and they’re quite rare in the UK now but we managed to find one alive. You’ll need a paddleboard or some sort of kayak to get yourself to the location where you can find wallabies.”
Inchconnachan, not easily reached as it necessitates a boat trip from Luss village on Loch’s southern side, is uninhabited and has been a haven for wallabies since Fiona Gore, Countess of Arran introduced them in the 1940s.
Remarkably, the island harbours one of the few thriving populations of wallabies outside of Australia. Adventurers can explore Wallaby Island, nestled at the southern tip of Loch Lomond near Balmaha.
Prospective visitors must either provide their own kayak, boat, or paddleboard or hire one locally, as there’s no scheduled ferry service to the isle.
After James’ online post about his amazing find went viral, racking up 2,500 likes and attracting numerous comments, the internet buzzed with excitement. Among the comments, one person exclaimed: “That’s so cool, I never knew that.”
Another was simply astounded: “Whattttt!” And a third confessed: “Awesome find man.”
