BECKLEY, W.Va. – An event is returning to Beckley after more than a decade to spread a message of hope to those struggling with addiction or mental illness.

Last held in 2012, The “One Flame Can Light the Way” candlelight vigil will be held this Saturday at the Jim Word Park in Beckley, organized by Bright Life Mental Health and Recovery Services, to honor the families of those affected by addiction and recovery. They are inviting everyone to take part, both those who know someone struggling and those just wanting to show their support.

Here, they will have singing, speakers who are in their own journey of recovery, and the candlelight vigil itself, with the candles provided. You are also encouraged to bring posters to honor loved ones.

One organizer said why she wanted to get involved with this event.

“I have a son who is in active addiction and I’ve been fighting for him for the past 18 years, and I will never stop and I will never give up and so I just hope it helps, if it helps one person, then I’ve done my job,” says Beckie Smith, who does marketing and referrals for Bright Life Mental Health and Recovery.

If you would like to take part, it will be held, Saturday, November 9 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

If you cannot make it, you are encouraged to put a candle in your window in solidarity. You can find more information on Bright Life Mental Health and Recovery Services on their website and Facebook page.
