Viewers of A Place in the Sun were left fuming as they criticised a ‘cheeky stunt’ by a couple following their ‘lowball’ offer.

In Wednesday’s episode of the popular Channel 4 programme, Ben Hillman was given the task of assisting avid golfers John and Adele in their search for the perfect holiday home.

The hunt took place in Murcia, Spain, with the pair having a budget of £100,000 to find a property with at least two bedrooms and either a bathtub or sufficient space to install one.

Having been together for 13 years, the couple emphasised the importance of a mountain view, a spacious kitchen, and proximity to a golf course.

Ben arranged five potential properties for the duo, ensuring they met some of their criteria. However, it was one particular property that caught the couple’s attention, reports the Mirror.

The property that impressed them was a bedroom apartment situated on a golf resort, boasting a large wrap-around terrace with views of the golf course. The kitchen, however, was slightly smaller than they had hoped for.

Ben noted: “I had hoped to give you that fantastic, all singing, all dancing kitchen but I don’t think I’ve quite delivered on that front, but I have given you a light-filled kitchen that has the potential to be expanded into the utility space.”

On the bright side, the property was within their budget, listed at £92,000. Despite the smaller kitchen, Adele and John were smitten with the home and decided to make an offer.

The pair confessed they were planning a ‘cheeky’ move by lodging an £80,000 offer for the property already listed at a bargain price.

Ben was dumbstruck upon learning of their proposal, emphasising that it was ‘too low’ as the property was in hot demand with several offers from other interested parties.

Their initial offer fell through, but after negotiations with the estate agent, they managed to close the deal at £85,840.

Viewers at home were gobsmacked by the bold offer, taking to social media to express their astonishment. One viewer posted: “A cheeky offer. Shock ….. #aplaceinthesun.” (sic)

And another aired their views with: “80k…the answer starts in F and ends in off #aplaceinthesun.” (sic). Another expressed their irritation with: “80k? ! There is lowballing And then there is downright p***takery #aplaceinthesun.” (sic)

Meanwhile, one more inquired: “Is Adele taking the p***? ? £80k.” (sic)

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays from 4pm on Channel 4.
