C.A.R.E.S EVENT FOR SET FOR THURSDAY(wvva news)

PRINCETON, W.Va. -Now to Mercer County where a yearly event benefiting those with special needs is being set up today in Princeton.

It’s the third annual “Cares Day” event, was being set up on Wednesday at the Princeton City Hall complex.

This year the Children and Residents Encounter” or C.A.R.E program is hosted by Southern Highlands Community Health Center.

It’s for the benefit of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and other special needs.

It’s set up like a carnival, with all the games, food and fun that comes with it.

Organizer Mark Brooks tells us that local first responders are on hand as well, so these kids and adults can become familiar with emergency personnel in a fun environment.

“We want them to get comfortable and know we are friendly people; we are here to help, and this apparatus and these trucks can be very scary at times especially with the flashing lights and the sirens. It can be scary coming at people. So, we want to make sure that they are comfortable in these situations prior to”

The event begins for kids Thursday morning from nine a-m until noon.

The event will take place for adults in the afternoon from one p-m until four p-m at Princeton City Hall.
