Fast food giant KFC has been given the green light for a mini makeover.

The firm previously applied for planning permission to carry out the works at their restaurant, on Liberator Drive, within the Heathfield Retail Park.

The work involved alterations to the restaurant including the installation of illuminated signage, new lettering on the outside of the building and fresh posters and vinyl stickers, amongst other changes.

The plans have since been approved by South Ayrshire Council planners.

Council papers said: “The proposal under consideration consists of multiple alterations to the restaurant’s exterior walls and finishings, including the repainting of all of the restaurant’s existing doors and window frames, the repainting of the restaurant’s roof cappings and soffits, the repainting of sections of the building’s upper fascia, and the installation of timber cladding to sections of the restaurant’s exterior walls.

“Additionally, the proposal shall also entail alterations to the existing bin store area associated with the premises, by way of the addition of a section of galvanised metal sheeting (approximately 1 metre high) around the perimeter of the bin store’s existing timber fencing enclosure, as well as alterations to the road signage within the application site to facilitate the operation of the restaurant’s existing drive thru facility.”

The report adds: “It is considered that the proposed alterations to the exterior walls and finishings of both the restaurant building and associated bin store structure shall not materially detract from the character or setting of the application site, with it being noted that the design of the proposed materials and finishings are consistent with those utilised within the existing building, and do not appear incongruous within the wider setting of the retail park.”
