(CNN) – Tracking lost luggage could soon get a bit easier.
Apple is beta testing an update allowing travelers who attach Apple Airtags to their luggage to share the device’s location with third parties.
That means airport staff could hunt for bags in real time.
Here’s how it works – a link to the Airtag’s location can be created in the “Find My” app. It can then be shared with others, including those not using an Apple device.
Apple has not said if or when the update will be added as a permanent fixture to its iOS systems.
There’s another option that can help anyone who finds your lost item find you. The “Show My Contact Info” feature will let the Airtag connect to any phone or tablet and share its owner’s information.
