An Irvine man has raised hundreds of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to the help of a generous store keeper.

Jack Harris was selected for Snappy Shoppers’ store dash at Bourtreehill Supermarket in Irvine in memory of his late mother-in-law Kathleen.

During the store dash, customers are given 60 seconds to grab as many items off the shelves – excluding tobacco, alcohol and scratch cards – as they can and place them in their trolley.

In his time, Jack secured £161 worth of goods and generous shopkeeper Imran Ali matched – and doubled – the total and donated the cash to Macmillan, a charity close to the family’s heart.

Jack said: “I joined the family five years ago and from the first day I walked into the kitchen she treated me like a son, I just loved her to bits.

“She cared for me hand and foot, she was just a fantastic woman.”

Imran added: “I have known Kathleen for a long time, she was always a big follower and supporter of the store from the very start, she was a very kind woman and was always asking about family.

“She became closer than just a shopper. So, when we found out about her diagnosis we were gutted. That is why it means a lot to us to make this donation.

“I am glad we could give back in this way to show how much we appreciated and cared for Kathleen.”
