A Stirling mother and daughter duo packed a punch as they both tasted success at the Scottish novice boxing championships recently.

Cheryl Mclean and her daughter Jodie-Louise each secured silver medals at the Boxing Scotland Development A&B Championships, held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, last week.

Jodie took a silver in the Schools 2010 A 48kg category before mum Cheryl also claimed a silver in the Elite A 52kg final – becoming the first mother and daughter pairing to achieve the feat.

Cheryl took up boxing around three years ago, whilst Bannockburn High pupil Jodie picked up the sport aroud a year later.

The pair have been honing their skills under the watchful eye of coach Ian McDonald at the Doghouse Boxing Club at Bandeath Industrial Estate, Throsk, and only had their first competitive bouts as part of the club’s home show on Mother’s Day this year.
