Rino Gattuso has moved to shoot down talk of him returning to Rangers as manager.

The World Cup and two-time Champions League winner is currently in Croatia where is in charge of Hajduk Split. His side are currently top of the table and, speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash against Intra 1961, he was quizzed on the prospect of going back to Glasgow to succeed Philippe Clement with the Belgian’s position having come under real scrutiny in recent months.

Gattuso said: “There’s nothing about me going to Rangers, only Hajduk is on my mind. It’s just gossip. My only priority is Istra. My only wish is to stay here and achieve our goals.” The Italian moved to Ibrox as a youngster from Perugia but only spent a couple of seasons there before he returned to Italy in a £4million move to Salernitana.

He then signed for Serie A giants AC Milan where he spent 13 trophy-laden years. Capped 73 times for Azzurri, he also lifted the World Cup in 2006.

Gattuso also managed at the San Siro as well as Napoli in Italy among a host of other jobs across Europe, including French giants Marseille.

He has never hidden his desire to manage Rangers one day and, speaking in 2015 after returning for a charity game in honour of his late former team-mate Fernando Ricksen, he said: “My dream is to maybe one day to have the chance to work for this club. I played today, but manager is a different job. I am sure 100% that this is a big club.”
