VINTON, Va. (WDBJ) – James Pugh, better known as “Bo”, was working on a construction project at Virginia Tech Wednesday. He died after, his family says, he fell nearly 40 feet after scaffolding gave out.
“I heard the news last night. I just couldn’t think. I couldn’t do nothing, you know,” said Raymond, a friend of Bo.
Raymond, Jamie and Keith are the owners and managers of the Dogwood Restaurant in Vinton, where Bo came in multiple times a week for almost 15 years.
They say they aren’t going to know what to do with an empty seat where such a joyful and kind spirit sat all those years.
“I just saw him Monday. We talked about going hunting in two weeks… now, to hear the sad news, I’m about to cry. He was a good friend, a good man. Sweet man, always came in here,” said Raymond.
Family members say he was an excellent and loving father, son, brother and friend.
While Bo will forever have a special place in their hearts, he will also soon have a special place on the Dogwood’s menu.
“We’ll make up something for him. Yeah, “The Bo”, yeah. Gotta have some Cajun home fries to go with it. We make our own Cajun seasoning and he loved that on everything,“ said Raymond and Keith.
Virginia Tech says while Pugh was not a university employee, they extend their condolences to his family. Another worker was also injured and authorities are still investigating to determine how the accident happened.
