Michael Stewart believes Hibs’ character is like a ‘DEATH SPIRAL’ as pressure seriously builds on David Gray.

The Easter Road faithful made their feelings heard as the boos rang around the ground both at half-time and at the full time whistle as the Hibees remain rock bottom of the Scottish Premiership going into the November international break. This season, they have picked up just one league win from 12 outings with this 2-1 defeat to Stephen Robinson’s side their sixth of the campaign.

Conor McMenamin bagged a double inside the opening half hour in the capital with Martin Boyle denied from the penalty spot by Ellery Balcombe in a golden chance to get his side back into the game. A second spot-kick was awarded in the fourth minute of added time with Nicky Cadden converting and then there was late drama in the Leith. The Hibees thought they had levelled in dramatic scenes but wild celebrations were cut short with the goal ruled offside.

Supporters are growing frustrated with top brass at the club and making noise on social media and those in the ground today clearly left frustrated at yet another defeat with performances on the park well under par and nowhere near good enough. BBC Sportsound claimed a number of fans even left the ground early as the Buddies hit their second of the game with more departing as the clock ticked down. It now remains to be seen what happens for boss Gray as pundit Stewart offered sympathies and his assessment of the current state of affairs.

Speaking on Sportsound, he said: “I think Rory Loy mentioned it before and is absolutely spot on. For David Gray, you are offered the Hibs job and of course you are going to take it.

“But there is a lot of managers who are in the building and been offered big jobs. They may well in time turn out to be good managers but they are big jobs at the wrong time for me.

“I really do hope I am proved wrong with this and that David Gray is able to pull himself out of it. It is looking very, very concerning. I have said it for weeks now that the character of the squad is like a death spiral at Hibs and I don’t know how as a young manager deal with that when you are looking around the changing room and looking for leaders that are not there.”

Record Sport columnist Tam McManus took to X after the whistle and wrote: “Unfortunately I think that is the end for David Gray but fingers and questions need to be firmly pointed at the owners and CEO. They have overseen a disastrous spell at Hibernian FC since sacking Jack Ross. Quite frankly an abysmal time to be a Hibs supporter big change is needed.”
