A Scottish Christmas market has been named the most beautiful to visit in Europe.
As we approach the second half of November, it is finally time to start thinking about heading to a festive market. It may not be December yet, but markets all over the country are preparing to open to the public.
New research carried out by Solopress has revealed which Christmas markets in Europe are the most popular on social media. According to the experts, Edinburgh ranks as Europe’s top Christmas market.
Running from November 15 through to January 4, the market features a variety of fairground rides and stalls selling everything from gifts to snacks. It also allows visitors to snap holiday photos against the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Gardens.
The study found that Edinburgh’s Christmas market boasts a “remarkable” 2,738 TikTok posts and 55,304 Instagram hashtags. It received an overall score of 9.11 out of 10.
Solopress commented: “Edinburgh’s Christmas market remains a European favourite, combining the atmospheric appeal of its UK location with a distinctly Scottish festive experience. Drawing over 55,000 Instagram posts and more than 2,700 TikTok mentions, this market is a staple for social media content, showcasing scenes from the bustling Princes Street Gardens to Edinburgh Castle illuminated against a wintry sky.
“The city’s Big Wheel, festive ice rink, and traditional Scottish food stalls provide a variety of scenes and experiences that make Edinburgh not only a visual delight but also a rich cultural experience, helping it to secure top marks on social media.”
Following behind in second place on the list, with a score of 9.02, is Winter WonderLand London. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five are Strasbourg in France, Vienna in Austria, and Budapest in Hungary.
