AUSTIN, Texas — Police say a driver fled the scene after hitting and killing a pedestrian in southeast Austin on Sunday.

According to the Austin Police Department, around 6:29 p.m. on Nov. 10, officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of East Stassney Lane and Teri Road.

The pedestrian, later identified as 39-year-old Kyla Walker, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The vehicle did not stop and left the scene, APD said.

The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 76th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 81 deaths. On the date of this crash in 2023, 77 fatal crashes resulted in 80 deaths.
