Queen Camilla has a peculiar snack obsession that’s packed with vitamins. The 77-year-old royal, who leads an incredibly healthy lifestyle alongside husband King Charles, is said to be fond of gardening, which led to her discovering favourite snack.
During a school visit in Slough, Berkshire, she confessed her love for raw peas, saying: “I tell you what I really like – eating peas straight from the garden. If you take them straight from the pod they are delicious and really sweet. I take all my grandchildren down to the garden and they spend hours and hours eating peas.”
Peas are known to be rich in vitamins C and E, zinc, and other antioxidants. The British Heart Foundation suggests that consuming one serving of peas, beans, or pulses daily can reduce cholesterol levels.
Healthline notes peas have a decent amount of magnesium, potassium and calcium – nutrients that studies have found can prevent high blood pressure. Eating the vegetable regularly could also help reduce the risk of cancer, given they contain the plant compound saponin, reports Surrey Live.
Studies have shown the compound could help fight several types of the disease and have the potential to reduce tumour growth. The Queen’s snack isn’t her only healthy food choice.
She enjoys starting her day with cheesy baked eggs, a protein-rich dish.
Tom Parker-Bowles has shared insights into his mother’s culinary preferences, revealing her partiality for scrambled eggs. The Queen also savours porridge with honey for breakfast, while her typical lunch includes fish, salads, avocado, and almonds.
The King, influenced by medical advice and his wife, has recently developed a taste for avocados, opting for a healthier lunch option. A source told MailOnline: “With some reluctance, he now has something to eat at lunchtime – a snack, really. He now eats half an avocado to sustain him through the day. It’s important, particularly if you have got an illness.”
For dinner, the Queen favours traditional British dishes such as chicken casseroles, local butcher’s steaks, cottage pie, baked salmon, and roast chicken, according to son Tom.
Her beverage of choice is wine, a habit she acquired early on due to her father’s involvement in the wine business. In 2023, she reminisced to Express.co.uk: “My father was in the wine business so as children we used to take wine and water and I have drunk it ever since.”
She added: “He always said it was his medicine and it kept him going – he used to take two or three glasses a day.”
