Rod Stewart has faced the heartbreaking reality that he may be forced to part with his beloved luxury sports cars, after admitting the potholes are wrecking his ‘works of art’.
The 79-year-old Maggie May rocker expressed gratitude on Instagram, saying he was “eternally grateful” to be in the position to own five iconic Italian vehicles, but noted they may need to soon go to a new home.
Rod noted he has been cruising around in the top of the range motors since the seventies, and he credited his fans for being in an “extremely fortunate” situation to have ownership of them. He also had a stern message for any trolls on the matter.
Alongside a snap of Rod with his five luxury sports cars, he penned on Instagram: “I am extremely fortunate and eternally grateful to be the owner of these five beautiful hybrid sports cars, which, in my opinion, are true ‘works of art.’
“Unfortunately, because of the potholes on our roads, I may have to find new owners for them. I’ve been driving these iconic Italian cars since the seventies, and I absolutely love and adore them.”
He continued, “This post is for my fans—thank you, as you are the sole reason I own them. And to all the trolls… don’t bother; I never read the comments,” before signing off with, ‘Sir Rod.’
His fans soon rushed to the comments, with some suggesting the singing legend could offer up the money he profits for the cars to charity. One person wrote: “Awesome!! Maybe an auction for various charities??”
“Very nice, Rod, happy for you! You are a great performer! You deserve everything you have!,” penned another fan whilst others flooded to the post with similar sentiments such as “Amazing cars, magnificent!”
Someone else joked: “I’m more impressed that you can still get in & out of them,” as another fan added, “You’re a legend mate. You’ve worked hard bringing joy to many. You enjoy those cars champion!”
Back in 2022, Sir Rod took matters into his own hands by pulling on his hi-vis vest and Celtic gear to fill potholes near his home. He claimed his Ferrari was unable to drive through and an ambulance also punctured a tyre on the large craters.
The Do Ya Think I’m Sexy singer said in his Instagram post where he shared the video at the time: “Working for a living, filling holes is good for the soul.”
Despite leaving many fans open-mouthed at the bizarre incident, he was praised by fans for looking after his community. One comic funnily joked how the Baby Jane singer was on community service.
Fans rushed to support the legend’s attempts to repair the road on his social media post. One wrote: “What a man, you’re absolutely right, it took them 3 years to fix the nightmare part that was nearer to you. You’d think they could divert a truck for a mile from the road works to fix it. No it takes a legend, well done.”
