The allure of a life abroad appeals to many.

After all, the UK’s gloomy skies, soaring living costs and mounting issues prompt some to consider a fresh start elsewhere. Six years back, one man took that leap.

John, who shares his Spanish escapades on TikTok under the handle @englishjohncostablanca, often speaks about his life in Spain, praising it as a “wonderful place to live”. With its sunshine and laid-back lifestyle, there’s plenty to like.

Yet, for those yearning for a sun-drenched existence, he offers a crucial tip. John believes there’s just one essential requirement for successfully relocating overseas, as it lays the groundwork for everything else.

In a recent clip, he revealed: “I’ve been living in Spain for over six years and I’ve learnt, during that time, the only thing you need to do in order to be happy here is just be able to support yourself financially.

“Everything else just takes care of itself, at least for me anyway. I mean obviously I used to holiday here, so I had an idea that if I lived here on a permanent basis, and I could afford to do that, then I’d spend my free time doing what I did while I was on holiday. Why would I not be happy? That’s something to think about.”

It’s a logical conclusion when you think about it. Once the paperwork is sorted, and you’ve secured a roof over your head, all that’s left is ensuring you have the funds to sustain your new lifestyle.

Clearly, his approach is paying off, as he now dedicates his days to producing content amidst balmy weather and stunning backdrops. Perhaps there’s a secret to turning your getaway into a permanent retreat after all.

Since the video was shared, it’s been viewed countless times, sparking enthusiastic responses from viewers who consider him incredibly fortunate.

One person shared: “It was great to chat with you John, and the information you have me has given me a lot to think about. Now I feel I can move forward.”

Another inquired: “Do you find most clients are retiring out there or coming to look for work?” John answered by explaining that people typically fall into the categories of retirees or those pursuing business opportunities.

Meanwhile, a third simply expressed: “Lucky. Enjoy it man!”
