(Gray News) – Advanced Auto Parts said Thursday it is closing more than 700 locations.
The news was announced as part of an earnings call where the car parts retailer shared the closures are part of its plan to “improve business performance with a focus on core retail improvements,” according to the report.
The reduction will include closing about 500 corporate stores and 200 independently-owned stores by mid-2025.
The company did not disclose which locations would be involved in the plan.
As of October 5, 2024, Advance operated 4,781 stores primarily within the United States, with additional locations in Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
According to CNN, major chain stores are on track to close the highest number of stores in 2024 than in any year since 2020, when the pandemic decimated businesses.
