Jeremy Clarkson has delivered a major blow to Prince Harry, with his Diddly Squat book sales far outpacing the paperback edition of Spare.

Richard Eden, a royal commentator for the Daily Mail, noted that the publisher of Harry’s explosive memoir might “regret” the former royal’s decision not to give any interviews to promote the paperback edition.

Richard highlighted that the paperback was in 73rd place in the Official UK Top 50, with around 3,000 copies of ‘Spare’ sold in its second week, reports Gloucestershire Live.

However, it pales in comparison to Jeremy Clarkson‘s ‘Diddly Squat: Home To Roost’.

The Top Gear star’s book details his adventures on the 1,000-acre Diddly Squat farm in Chipping Norton, Cotswolds. It sold 10,000 copies, outpacing Spare by more than three times.

It’s also a stark contrast to the Duke of Sussex’s strong hardback sales, which exceeded 700,000 copies and earned the title of the UK’s best-selling book of 2023.

According to the New York Times, by January 31 of that year, the memoir had sold over one million copies across the UK, US and Canada.

However, the book’s success may have been attributed to Harry’s promotional efforts at the time, including his appearance on 60 Minutes with Anderson Cooper.

However, the more affordable paperback didn’t receive the same level of attention, with Penguin Random House confirming that no updates were made to the text since the hardback was released last year.

Royal pundit Phil Dampier previously told The Sun: “The paperback version of Spare has come out hasn’t it during this last couple of weeks. Normally you would have added in a couple of sensational headline-grabbing stories [into the] paperback version of a book.”

He continued by saying that the Duke’s lack of promotion is an “indication” that they are “reining back off it”, with Harry likely knowing that he is “not going to build any bridges” unless he “sort of cools it down.”

Which he was likely referring to Prince Harry’s ongoing tensions with the royal family, including his feud with his brother Prince William, after The Sussexes controversial departure from royal duties, and their departure to California in 2020.
