Fans of Channel 4’s property hunt sensation, A Place in the Sun, were left stunned as host Laura Hamilton showcased a “cave-like” property to house hunter Mark.

In Thursday’s episode, Laura joined Mark from Kent on his quest to find a quaint holiday home in Italy. With £80,000 in hand and his best mate by his side, Mark was on the lookout for something with a traditional touch.

However, the initial option Laura presented was met with disdain from viewers, who labelled it “vile.”

The absence of windows was startlingly clear to viewers as they toured the first property, which also featured bare brick walls.

Adding his view, Mark felt the space was too “crisp and modern” for his rustic tastes, desiring something with more age and character.

But those tuning in at home were not hesitant to vent their dismay on X, with one audience member exclaiming: “That’s a f*****g cave. Afternoon everybody.” (sic),” reports the Mirror.

One commenter lamented: “Sorry, that is the most vile looking place in the history of vile looking places.”

While another confused watcher queried: “Where are the windows?”

The surprises didn’t cease with just one property. As the show progressed, Laura’s second showing also failed to win over the audience.

Much like the first property, the second Italian abode featured dim lighting and a cave-like ambience, an aspect that Mark also highlighted. A viewer tuning into the not-so-successful viewing commented, “Is this the no Windows version or what? #aplaceinthesun.”

While another added: “A bedroom with no window, I would have to paint a fake window and put curtains up before considering sleeping in there. Now a visitor’s bedroom with 4-foot ceiling. And this is a contender.” (sic)

A third fan said: “Cheap properties in Italy don’t have windows. Not so much as ‘townhouse’ more a cave.”

A fourth added: “You’d think Italians were afraid of windows if you relied on this episode.”

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
